The void
Well, any comment???
Here is a concept I can't understand so far but it seams to be very important in Budo and Budo related martial arts. I also seemed to be important in the samourai's spirit.
Can ayone explain me "the void" concept?

emptiness, like that of a "sheet of paper waiting for the master caligraphers pen"
I read somewhere, in humans it can be thought of as being devoid of predijuces, and particular wants.
but for objects, "like a hollow, empty vessel ready to receive".
I guess can philosophically beleive it to be of a constant state of rediness. Fears, thoughts, emotions are cluttering our minds so much that we cannot make the necessary movements easily. Like they are in the way of what could be simple.
like saying "sorry, please forgive me". Pride could stand in the way, or shame.
But then, stands another question, To be completely Void, is to be inhuman?
to rox,
it's not the right conclusion for this as im concerned.
the person who is in that staus, just answear each moments by well prepared his/her knowledge or the instinct from own perception;this must be differnciated from dogma definately!! but never stuck or regret of the descision/action made.
just answear of , don't be stuck of; it's getting to know the flow of process in life.
but when the person is applying his/her action for achieving something, if she/he is not layered well, can be truly in ugly result.
about empty vessel,
one western philoshoper went to a temple, why? he wanted to discuss of his knowledge with a monk who well known. he asked the philosopher having a cup of tea first. he was so ambitious how much he has studied and understood of, but the monk still keep the calmness, and just pouring warm tea to his tea bowl," you don't want to discuss what i've obtained?" the tea water was about to over the rim of cup and the philosopher went to empty the excess to near window side, the monk finally started a word like this" if you don't empty the full filled amount of water in your cup, how come you can receive new fresh tea."
cf. sorry if my english dosen't decribe well..but im improving "V"

hey Mo!
Im not sure of your conclusion as well.
Are you saying that you already have to have knowlege in order to act without being hesitant?
Sorry haha, yah it is a little hard to read. But I get the most of it.
I was not implying that being void is to be empty of knowledge, just not letting emotions, needs, to get in the way.
To be able to act without hesitation because of "thinking too much", thinking of consequences, being wise in decisions and just doing it.
In "The Heart of Kendo" it refers to Mokuso as being a way to meditate and remove our "Ego", emptying out the thoughts of the day and being ready for kendo practice. empyting ourselves to be ready to receive instructions.
me said void not just as empty..
i wrote the empty vessel as a back ground knowledge of oriental philosophy, very abstract, not defined like anatomical way. --you slowly aware of..
i had a short talk of this with my friend in albert park after dinner.
and suddenly i misunderstood of rox's comments somewhat.
umm...about void.
me need to think more.
hopely this weekend after.
but me not sure, it may closely approach to what we're looking for.
as always we're imperfect who're trying to be perfect till the final time call.
dose anybody hav some left panadol?kk
